What ink cartridge does Canon MX470 use?
The Canon MX470 uses PG-540 (black) and CL-541 (colour) ink cartridges. These are available in standard capacity and high capacity (XL) versions. How do I change the ink in my Canon Pixma MX470?
It’s easy to change the ink in your Canon Pixma MX470 printer! First, make sure that the printer is plugged in and turned on, and that the paper output tray is open. Open the paper output cover by pulling it forward from the top. The cartridge holder will move to the replacement position and the head cover will open automatically. If you are replacing a cartridge that is already installed, push the cartridge lock lever down to release the cartridge, and slide it out. Insert the new cartridge and push the lock lever back up until it clicks. Ensure that the cartridges are in the correct position – colour on the left and black on the right. Close the paper output cover and the printer will register the new cartridge.
Are Canon Pixma ink cartridges refillable?
It’s possible but we don’t recommend it. Canon Pixma ink cartridges are refillable, but in most cases, you would also need to reset or replace the chip on the cartridge so that the printer doesn’t identify it as empty. Refilling ink cartridges used to be a viable option in the days before reliable compatible cartridges, and chips that could tell the printer whether the cartridge had been used before. Today, it is just as economical, considerably easier and a lot less messy to buy compatible cartridges instead.
Are all Canon Pixma ink cartridges the same?
No, Canon Pixma ink cartridges are not all the same. The Pixma range consists of hundreds of different printers, and they take dozens of different cartridge types. You can ensure that you are buying the right cartridges by either selecting them from a page specific to your printer (this page is for the Canon Pixma MX470) or by checking the cartridge numbers (this page contains PG-540 and CL-541 cartridges).
